Commanders Fall 24-22 To Eagles In Week One

The Washington Commanders kicked off the 2026 NFL season falling 24-22 on the road Sunday against NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, at Lincoln Financial Field.

Washington looked to mount a late comeback but ultimately fell two yards short in their season opener. Trailing 24-16 with just over six minutes remaining, the Commanders rallied behind quarterback Jayden Daniels, who connected with key receivers to move the ball downfield.

Daniels was able to convert a fourth-and-two with a six-yard pass to Terry McLaurin, before finding Antonio Williams for a one-yard touchdown that cut the deficit to two.

With a chance to tie the game, the Commanders attempted a two-point conversion on a pass to tight end John Bates. But it was the Eagles' defense that stopped Bates at the line of scrimmage, preserving Philadelphia's lead which ended Washington's comeback bid.

The Washington Commanders had tremendous fight after trailing for much of the game, but it was costly mistakes and inconsistent offensive drives that left little room for era against the reigning NFC East champions.

Washington is set to be back on the road to face another NFC East division opponent, the Dallas Cowboys. Kickoff will be on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 3:45 p.m. CT.
